Amit Jacobi was born in 1981 in Rehovot, Israel and spent his first five years in a military camp in the Israeli desert. He lives in Berlin for over thirteen years. Following two years of acting studies in the “Berliner Schule für Schauspiel” he started his diploma studies as a Performing Artist / Puppeteer in the “Ernst Busch” school of drama, Berlin which he then finished in 2012. In the year 2014 he was granted with  the “Early Career Funding” for his project “Mazal Tov, Performancekunst“ (Mazal Tov, Performance Art) through the Senate Chancellery of Cultural Affairs of Berlin as well as in 2015 with an individual funding for his project “We know what’s hot where and when” at the “Uferstudios”, Berlin.

During his studies he was performing as an actor and a puppeteer in various theater pieces like “Heinz Holzer / Fragmentation for Advanced” (2012) under the direction of Markus Joss at the “Maxim Gorki Theater”, Berlin and “Prometheus!” (2011) under the direction of Alexandra Roscha Säidow at the “bat Theater”, Berlin. In 2009 he also directed two pieces of his own at the “bat Theater”: “Im Erwarten des großen weißen Lichts” (In the Anticipation of the Big White Light) and “1, 2, 3, 4 Fear”. He performed and co-directed with Sivan Ben Yishai the performances “3rd Land / IYKWIMAITYD” (2015) at the “Future Forum” conference, Berlin as well as “I Know I’m Ugly but I Glitter in the Dark” (2015) at the “ID Festival” of the “Radialsystem V”, Berlin. In the same year he directed the opening performance of “Playground Israel” Festival for the “Theater an der Parkaue”, Berlin with pupils of the “Heinz Brandt Oberschule”.

He was performing as a puppeteer in Marjane Satrapis feature film “Chicken with Plums” (2010) as well as an actor in Anna Maria Roznowskas short film “I’m a Monkey” (2014) and Eran Riklis’ feature film “Refuge” (to be released 2017).

He has a particular interest in the combination of various forms of visual theater, video and dance; which he followed in his intermediate piece “Hinter der Glasscheibe” (Behind the Glass Pane) and his diploma piece “Up, Up and Away!” (2012). Parallel to his studies he took many courses and workshops such as Collab at the “HZT/Inter-University Center for Dance”, Berlin (Nik Haffner), Butho, Modern Dance, Contact Improvisation, Meyerhold’s Biomechanics (Gennadi Bogdanov), acrobatics, fencing and mime. As a dancer he was performing in projects as Anna Maria Roznowska’s “In Between” and “Sprechende Körper / Körper-Sprache” [Speaking bodies (body-language)] Version 2011 of Annette Jahns and Christian Kesten to a composition of Dieter Schnebel at the “Festspielhaus Hellerau”, Dresden.

He collaborates with the activists group “Peng! Collective” on numerous campaigns and on various theater stages like “Schauspiel Dortmund”, “Sophiensaele”, Berlin and „Kampnagel“, Hamburg.

Amit Jacobi is also a qualified web & graphic designer with a years-long experience. He was working in the production of Adam Kalderon’s debut feature film “Marzipan Flowers” (2014) as a Background Imagery Designer and designed the Xerox-alike backgrounds with a total length of more than 600 meters which make a distinctive characteristics of the film.
